Laundry Quandry

This was my laundry baskets after all the clothes and towels from upstairs were brought downstairs.

I only have three baskets, and then the one for towels, undies, and socks. If I had more room, I'd have more.

The three baskets are used as follows: one is for light-colored clothes, one is for dark-colored clothes and jeans (unless of course the jeans just get separated out in the first place on the floor like they are in this picture), and one for clothes that are washed on a more delicate cycle.

Now get this...this doesn't even include bedding!

I usually don't let it get this backed up, but it does happen occasionally. I was trying to figure out how many loads I do in a week. I'd estimate between 13 and 15 without any bedding, they are usually full loads, and I have a big washer capacity. That's a lot of laundry!

When I was on bed rest with the girls, I missed doing laundry. I decided then and there that I would never complain about laundry again. I don't like it when it's backed up, but I don't mind doing it.

I also don't let people in the house help me with it. I like things folded a certain way, hung up a certain way — I think it's something I can control and that's why I like it so much. Obviously has to be something OCD!

Soon my girls will be doing their own laundry, not mixed with mine of course. But they need to learn. I guess they'll find out when they read this post.

You'll know they know when you hear the moans and groans from afar.

That's a lot of laundry. My decreased a lot when Laura moved out, decreased more when Andy left and now Heather does her own. I still do laundry of some sort every one to two days so I don't get overloaded.

Hmmm....looks like my house! I, too, enjoy laundry. It rarely builds up because it's one chore that I do daily....unlike mopping the kitchen floor...which so desperately needs it!

I too, like you, enjoy doing the laundry. Jeff is more OCD than i though and has his things that I can't touch or he gets VERY angry.

I'm not sure I am OCD really that much. Except for when it comes to the portion of scoops of ice cream on pie, or bubbles in bubble tea. I like to have a bite of ice cream with every bite of pie, so there has to be just enough ice cream...and so forth.

As for laundry, I do have a method, but nothing that can't be changed or done for me. I suppose I'm very easy going and change doesn't bother me, usually.

I admire those, like yourself, who I think, do things just perfectly. I am very fast at doing cleaning that I don't really think about doing it perfect per say, just 'getting it done' in a routinely fashion so that it can be passed on easily, if it needs to be. I'm all for easy procedures I guess :) I might have to do a post on all my 'easy procedures' some time so you can see. lol

Please teach them soon!! My mom waited as she loved doing it for us too, and I learned how to do it with a crash course just a week or two before leaving for college. Ugh, I ruined some clothes for sure!! I still feel like a bit of a laundry idiot! I definitely encourage you not to let that run away from you; teach them while they're still young. :) But I get what you mean. I can be a bit OCD about it too and freak out if hubster touches it too much!

I agree with Rochelle ~ I never learned how to do laundry! And in college, I was short on quarters at the laundromat and thought "why can't I just wash all of it together...the machines are big enough and it will be cheaper!" I did that for a few months and everything was gray!

My mom had my brother and I help with laundry from about 8 or 10, and she's just as OCD about it as you. If we didn't do it EXACTLY her way, we had to do it again!

Oh, and posts about laundry always make me happy that this single girl does 2-3 loads every other week and that's it!

Betsy - mopping a kitchen floor...what's that? I still haven't figured out something safe to use on my wood floors, so I do it on my hands and knees with a rag, getting up and down to go to the sink and rinse it in between, so I don't do it very often. Crazy!

Demara - I must be giving off the wrong impression, because perfect is definitely not the word to use for me. Maybe call me picky, or super picky!

Rochelle - I don't think my girls like you very much now after the 'please teach them soon' comment! :)

Ronnica - It's a good thing I like laundry, or I might definitely be jealous of you!

I feel like you in that I look forward to doing laundry. All I ask is that it gets picked up off the floor of their rooms and put in the proper hamper in the laundry room. I used to use my couch to fold and keep the folded clothes there until they picked it up and put it away, but much to my shagrin, that could take too long. I now have a five shelf hanging organizer (one or each person) that their folded clothes reside in and their hanging clothes are in a segmented area as well. I now have a new wall saying in my laundry room that I cut with my cricuit that says..."life is like laundry - loads of fun" I love laundry! <3
