Colonial Williamsburg Artwork

One of our favorite things in the two years that we lived in Virginia was our visits to Colonial Williamsburg, especially during the Christmas season. We spent several nights the week of Christmas 2006 in Colonial Williamsburg, including Christmas Eve when the Fifes and Drums marched in their finery, and we sang Christmas songs followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree.

One night that week we stopped in one of the bookstore/shops in the main building on our way out. We always loved browsing there, and they happened to have some Colonial Williamsburg art on display. Since we hadn't bought ourselves a Christmas gift waiting until we found 'just the right thing,' and since my birthday was five days after Christmas, we decided we would purchase the four seasons paintings. We were fortunate that the sales clerk honored the homeschool discount we would normally get for book purchases on the pictures as well.

The artist is Karen Cruden, and these happen to be signed and numbered.

Then right before we left Virginia (when our friends from Illinois came to visit and we took them to Williamsburg), there was a new picture in the shop. It illustrated the Grand Illumination, held the first Sunday of December every year in Colonial Williamsburg. It was our 'leaving Virginia' gift to ourselves.

The individual pictures don't really do them justice. Having to finagle around where the flash didn't leave a glare ended up giving me rather dull pictures. Here are a couple of pictures I took before so you can see where they hang and how big they are.

These are some of my favorite things. I love being able to see them every day, and I spend lots of time in this room between meals and school with the kids.

Absolutely love your colonial Williamsburg art....I understand the problems of photographing items with a reflection.

I love those and I love Williamsburg too. I've only been once a couple of years ago, but I'm hoping to go again soon.

Hi,

I love that you bought Karen's artwork. I have been her agent for years and never get tired of people finding and loving her art. You would love Karen; she is as beautiful inside and out as her artwork.
